Alte Lateinschule

Behind the St. Severi church stands the former Latin school, a classicist half-timbered building from 1614, where the children of the Hadl farmers and the Otterndorf bourgeoisie went to school in three classes so that they could later attend university. The famous poet Johann Heinrich Voß was principal at this school from 1778 to 1782. A bronze bust commemorates him. As taxes at the time were calculated on the basis of built-up land, the living space was cleverly increased by the protruding upper floors.

The Latin School was last completely renovated in 1994/95. Today, the rooms house the church office and private apartments.
