You can't live closer to the water

If you stroll west along the dyke from the south beach, you can spot a few huts lined up close to the water from afar on a clear day.

The Banter fishing village is a collection of mobile fishing huts on the Banter sea dyke in Wilhelmshaven. The fishing village was built in 1908 after the construction of the new Banter sea dyke for the southern expansion of the war port. Simple large families from the Banter workers' settlement fished here mainly as a hobby to earn extra money or to cover the food requirements of the often large families (5-10 children). The initially simple wooden huts with coal stoves served as a starting point for fishing with small rowing boats on the Jade Bay.

Now, since the dyke was raised in 1982, there is a paved area directly on the lower path where recreational fishermen can enjoy life on the water from April to October in their wood-clad, mobile huts. From November to March, the huts are in winter storage.
