The museum houses a unique collection of sea shells and sea snails that has been gathered over decades of worldwide collecting. The exhibits are not sorted and displayed according to Latin names, genera or scientific aspects, but are given names that result from word-artistic fantasies and the fascinating variety of forms. They always provoke a smile, reflection or even loud laughter in the visitor. This concept brings the layman closer to the diversity of nature without wanting to instruct him. Even children, as long as they can read, are not overtaxed (there is a painting corner for the very young).
And yet, information is not neglected. The museum has set itself the task of making visitors aware of the shells of mussels and snails as a waste product that is produced worldwide: Only a "delicacy" in rich countries, mussels and snails are the "means of survival" in large areas of the poorer coastal population in third world countries. The photographs and texts on this topic are worth seeing and reading.
