A small attraction in Cuxhaven's pilot quarter
The world's only penguin museum is located directly on Schillerplatz. It was opened on March 15, 2009. Around 4,000 exhibits from the largest penguin collection in the world are on display here on approx. 120 square meters:
Figures made of a wide variety of materials (plush, wood, ceramics, porcelain, minerals, plastic and much more.), everyday objects from various areas of life (kitchen, bathroom, office), collector's series from well-known manufacturers (Goebel, Steiff, Schleich, Hallmark etc.), textiles, puzzles, collector's items from TV and cinema films, books, telephone cards, puzzles - in short: everything has something to do with penguins! The highlight of the exhibition are several specimens of different penguin species as well as a real skeleton of a Humboldt penguin.
Every year, special exhibitions are set up on changing themes (including bathrooms, jewelry & accessories, sports, textiles, games & toys). In addition, visitors also receive information about the real penguins (species diversity, distribution areas, threats and species protection). And anyone who collects penguins or is looking for a souvenir will find a huge selection of used and as-new penguin items at reasonable prices in the store.
