Anyone walking towards the water's edge in Hooksiel is also standing at the entrance to the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park. The newly installed "Gateway to the National Park" stele sets the scene for this in an impressive yet unobtrusive way - and also makes a wonderful photo spot!
The idea of making the entrance to the national park visible was born a long time ago. Unlike in forest national parks, for example, it is not immediately obvious where the protected area begins in the vast open landscape with its several hundred kilometers of coastline. The aim was to make the markings stable and at the same time discreet enough to blend in aesthetically with the landscape and still catch the eye. A total of four gates were erected in Wangerland in collaboration with the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park.
