From mid-March to October on Wednesdays from 14:00 to 16:30, visitors are given an insight into the history of the district of Labiau, situated on the Curonian Lagoon in East Prussia.
Among other things, you can find out which special boats were used for fishing in the fish-rich Curonian Lagoon and what unique mast decorations the boats had.
On the upper floor, temporary exhibitions offer ever new and interesting insights into life at that time. Lovingly collected exhibits, which some families must have parted with with a heavy heart, are a reminder of the home district, which is now in the Russian part of East Prussia.
The gatehouse from 1641, together with the only partially preserved moat, served as a protective structure for the castle (today's district court). You can still clearly see the round archways in the stonework - through which carriages used to enter the actual castle grounds.
