The stage starts in the heart of Bremerhaven's Havenwelten. Apart from the famous Klimahaus Climate Experience Centre, the route also leads through the large container terminals in the harbour and therefore to the gates of the city. The route continues along the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park towards the Wurster North Sea coast, where you can get a glimpse the Oberversand lighthouse, which once steered shipping traffic through the fairway, from a distance.
There's something very special in Spieka-Neufeld: the first crab shelling machine. Invented by Alwin Kocken, the machine made it possible to immediately process the fresh North Sea crab without having to transport it abroad to be peeled.
Heading towards Cuxhaven, the route distances itself a little from the sea and you cycle through the Wernerwald forest before returning to the water. With views overlooking the island of Neuwerk, the route then takes you through the districts of Duhnen and Döse directly to the Kugelbake (ball beacon), marking the northernmost point in Lower Saxony. The three well-known long-distance cycle routes - the Elbe Cycle Route, Weser Cycle Route and North Sea Cycle Route - all meet at this special place.
