- Destination: Brunsbüttel
The route takes you from Elmshorn through the countryside along the Krückau towards Kollmar. You can see the glistening waters of the Elbe once again from land. The marsh landscape also has a lot to offer. The rapeseed fields blossom in spring, the cornfields glisten in summer while horses graze on the green meadows.
Having arrived in Glückstadt, it's well worth taking a break at the heritage-protected harbour row with a delicious Matjes roll (herring bread roll). Once fortified, you head for Brunsbüttel, where you cycle along the dyke passing quaint half-timbered houses.
Brunsbüttel can be reached by travelling on the ferry. What makes Brunsbüttel so special is its location directly on the North Sea, Elbe and Kiel Canal. It is home to one of the largest lock structures in the world, which facilitates access for international shipping traffic between the North Sea and Baltic Sea. This is what makes Brunsbüttel a unique harbour and lock town.
