Rugged nature and beautiful beaches

Fascinating coastal communities and maritime towns, paradise-like sunshine and wild storm surges, high and low tides - this is where rugged nature meets beautiful scenery. Experience the typical Frisian culture while enjoying a crab roll in the charming cutter harbour or relax and take a break with the popular Frisian tea. Speaking of relaxing - if you're looking to recover after a long cycle tour along the North Sea coast, thalassotherapy is just the thing: high-quality treatments from the treasures of the Wadden Sea will revitalise you for your next tour. The well-developed cycle route network is perfect for getting to know the various places along the North Sea coast of Lower Saxony. It's worth taking a stroll in the evening or stopping off at a beach bar on the coast to enjoy the unique sunset.

7 great highlights

  • The 11-metre high Pilsum lighthouse is considered a landmark of East Frisia and has already been used as a backdrop for several films. The red and yellow striped lighthouse was made particularly famous by the film "Otto - der Außerfriesische" with Otto Waalkes. Or discover the region on your bike and marvel at the charm of the small cutter harbours and the stately lighthouses on the Wurster North Sea coast. The "Kleine Preuße" lighthouse in Wremen and the "Obereversand" lighthouse monument in Dorum-Neufeld look forward to your visit.

  • It's definitely worth making a stopover in Greetsiel. The picturesque cutter harbour with its small gabled houses right on the Siel awaits you there.

  • Das DECK in Norden-Norddeich, situated directly on the North Sea coast, is the perfect combination of national park promenade, beach, dune landscape and indulgence. You can enjoy a relaxing day by the water here.

  • Teetied is part and parcel of life in East Frisia. You can experience a traditional tea ceremony with Kluntje (sugar cubes) and Wulkje (heavy cream) in the many tea rooms.

  • Head on a voyage of discovery through the Earth's climate zones - that's possible at the Klimahaus Bremerhaven. Travelling along the 8th meridian east, you will cross five continents and visit nine places where you will meet people from all over the world who will tell you about their everyday lives. You will sweat, shiver, laugh and be surprised!

  • Get a feel for the power of the North Sea and the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site on a guided mudflat hiking tour and discover everything you need to know about this unique habitat.

  • The sunset over the sea is a special moment in Cuxland. It's worth pausing for just a moment to savour this special time when the sea glistens in the last rays of the sun and the sky takes on a reddish hue.
